Forces of Nature - Portland Head Lighthouse - Cape Elizabeth - Maine

Portland Head Lighthouse is still one of my favorite places to shoot in the Northeast. I'm hoping to go this winter when there's some snow -- if we ever get any this year.

Shave-and-a-Hair-Cut---Eastern-State-Penitentiary- --Philadelphia-PA

A few days ago, I remembered taking this picture and never processing it. I was looking for a bit of a Photoshop experiment and this seemed to fit the bill. I knew sort of what I wanted to accomplish when I took this picture. Even though I was using a wide angle lens, I needed to set this up as a panorama to capture the chair in the location I wanted plus the length of the hallway. I also knew I wanted to capture this grungy, HDR feel, so I bracketed widely on location. I ended up only using two of the exposures because I was having problems lining up multiple pano exposures in post, or I was having problems getting the HDR treatment correct before merging the images into a pano. I ended up going the latter route (HDR conversion first, then merging two images into the pano). Anyway, it was a fun experiment.

Earth and Sky - Arches National Park - Moab UT

Earth and Sky - Arches National Park - Moab UT

A recent trip to Arches gave us the opportunity do some night photography. This is the first time I've tried to capture the Milky Way. We had a fantastic night to do it. No clouds and no moon, just a cold and windy night and a great little app called Star Walk to help us figure out where to set up.

Dead Horse State Park was a beautiful place to spend sunset on Thanksgiving. The cliffs lit up with a warm glow of last light as the sun set over the canyonlands below.

Goblin Valley - Green River - Utah

Goblin Valley - Green River - Utah

We're back from a great trip to Utah visiting Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse State Park, and Goblin Valley State Park. What crazy landscapes in all of them. Amazing places and each is so unique. Here's twilight at Goblin Valley. Surely, this isn't someplace on planet Earth! It's really cool to walk in the valley among all these formations, but the better view is from above where you can see how far the valley runs. It's worth a visit on your next trip.
