I was going through some of my remaining sandcastle shots from
Vieques, and something strange caught my eye...
(this is a tiny crop, sorry about the low resolution).
I finally got around to posting the full sandcastle, here:

kisses are a better fate than wisdom, and 2 other people added this photo to their favorites.

I see a long sad face, and perhaps a blobbish left arm hanging down over the side, like he's been sandwhiched by a series of other sand droppings while resting on his chest.

I see a little face with a wide-open mouth, but then I can see lots of things in this image.

Ciao Matt, in a sand castle I see all and more, my fantasy goes. :-))

nobody's creeped out by that face? I'm not sure if its sad - it looks like its yelling or screaming to me. Certainly not happy. Really wish I had taken this shot higher resolution - I'd love to get a closer look at it.

It looks like it's moaning, like an old sad ghostly spirit or something! Definitely creepy, Matt. ;-)

La Sagrada Familia!

thanks Frackers - that was my reaction too.
Turbopascual - Now that is silly! I suppose I see the connection, and am flattered. Thanks.

I interpretted it as the face of resignment if he had a though bubble it would be...
. o O ( oh well... here I am... stuck in Matt's sand castle... again )
And of course if you could hear the thought bubble, it would sound like Eeyore.

On a related note, have you ever considered shaping the sand after it's been dripped? It looks like it could lend itself to some very cool emergent artwork. For maximum creepiness, you could turn every little blob into its own screaming face. I think next time I find myself at the beach, I'm going to have to this out...

You've got quite an imagination Karma - yes, the little face is not pleased being stuck in the sand castle, that's for sure.
It had never occurred to me to do any post-drip-sculpting - that is, until a bunch of people saw faces and human forms in some of my Viequan sandcastles. I think it would be pretty hard to do this intentionally - this little face is probably no bigger than a nickel and pretty fragile. We'll see... it is starting to warm up - finally! - and hopefully I'll get to the beach within the next month or so...

thanks Bill - I appreciate such enthusiasm from a true master of the ephemeral arts - I just fool around... Thanks for blogging this, too - very flattering.
Lee-la: Um, where? Feel free to add a note. i like Turbopascual's note quite a bit - hadn't noticed it.

I see a whole little person with a chubby face sitting there... I want to add a note but I can't!
sandcastlematt 73 months ago | reply
I'm looking for your chubby faced person, but don't see it. Ok, your comment got me to finally send this photo to a group - just join the sandsculptures group and you should be able to add your note.
