When we arrived at the gym everyone was busy setting up their umbrellas and overhead softboxes so I walked over to this young man who was stretching on the matts and began shooting a few portraits of him. For this shoot I only brought my Nikon flashes and flash stands so I had to think about how to light my subjects w/out my trusty light stand and the light coming from overhead.

I didn't get the light the way I wanted it in this shot so I created the effect I wanted in Photoshop. I will keep at it until I can set this up quickly using my strobes. As always CC is welcomed, thanks for stopping by!

This is a crop of a 3/4 body shot inside of a boxing ring. This was a three light set-up using 3 Nikon SB-600s shot at 12mm.

Yesterday, got together with a local group of photographers for a special photo session titled "Getting Gritty In The Gym." Originally, we wanted a boxing gym but found a nice MMA facility that had a ring. There were 10 photographers with 10 different light setups and it was a packed house. We couldn't use light stands or anything that would damage the floor mats so you had to have an assistant or "go for what you know."

Had a great time and am looking forward to photographing some boxers in a boxing gym in the near future. Here's a couple of early edits that I hope you enjoy. Have a great week!
