Life in the Gambia!

Life in the Gambia!

Hello everyone. I know it has been nearly a year since I last posted on flickr and have received a few emails from my closest contacts and thought I would update you;

In last last year I quit my job, and went travelling to Africa and in January fulfilled my dream of living in the Gambia. My life has been a complete change and I have to say that I have never been happier. Of course I miss my family dearly but wonder why I ever left it this long.

I have been busy with my photography business and getting quite a name out here. So that side of things is keeping me busy,

The most exciting thing is that I am about to fulfill the final part of my dream which was to open a Bar/Restaurant with a Top Chef in the Gambia. He was rated as one of the top 10 here and was on Masterchef the Gambia and a bit of a local celeb on National TV. I know we will be brilliant together. I will look after the bar (try not to drink the profit!!) and he will run the kitchen.

I am posting stuff on my Sally Bowe Photography Facebook page if you'd like to see what I do here, the link is here.

If you are a Facebook user we could also stay in tocuh there as I already do with a couple of you. This is my personal FB page

I would never been a post and run person on flickr which is why I decided it was fairer not to upload. I do hope that you are all well and miss you all!!

Best wishes always Sally XX

Boys will be boys!

Boys will be boys!

These lads were from the village in Abuko and this was their compound I visited. Such a proud family.

Such innocence

Such innocence

This little girl is the niece of my friend Seddy. She lives in a remote village near Abuko. Such a darling girl who could speak a tiny bit of English.

There are 8 main ethnic groups in Gambia living side by side with virtually no inter-tribal friction, each preserving its own language, music, cultural traditions. This little girl is from the Jola community, which make up only about 10% of the ethnic groups in The Gambia.

Children From Abuko - The Gambia

Children From Abuko - The Gambia

Hello everyone!

I know it has been 6 months or more since I posted on flickr. I am a true believer in that you shouldn't post and run on this site. So, due to time constraints and work commitments I have been unable to contribute and comment.

I have just had a quick peek at some of your posts and have to say I have missed you all.

This picture was from my last trip to the Gambia. The children are related to a very good friend of mine and I was privileged to spend the afternoon with the family drinking attaya ( a delicious green tea that takes hours to brew)

They have so very little but were rich in kindness and smiles for my camera.
