The last days for this old communications cone at the top of Mt. Gardner on Bowen Island. The base for the new cone is prepared and the builders await the arrival of the boss to decide that all is ready for the new cone. The new cone arrived by helicopter about 1/2 hour later. The old cone will have the components removed and then it will be lifted out next week. Note that you can see the fibre glass showing through the coating, and it has tilted. The new base is much more robust construction than the old one. There are about 300 of the cones on mountains around British Columbia. Most are in high remote locations. Internal batteries can keep them operational for many days when the solar cells or power lines (such as here) fail.
