I must have drawn this when I was about ten to thirteen years old. It's a kind of inept 1980's view of the future of robotics. The robot for some inexplicable reason comes with a five and a quarter inch disk-drive along with a VHS slot. It's strangely domed head is adorned with goggle-eyes. What can it all mean?

The domed head could be R2D2 inspired I suppose, although I can't think of anything to relate the motive unit (presumable the source of it's floatiness) or the flexible arms or the googlie eyes. I kinda remember this came from your googlie eye period though - I am sure other drawings had similar goggle.
A brilliant drawing!

The motive unit was perhaps copied from a diagram of a Dr Who Dalek that I saw as a small child. I believe it was in a book called "The Dr Who Encyclopedia", and it featured all kinds of sci-fi gubbins. The hydraulic arms look kind of deadly - I wouldnt want a Future Robot 4 near my infant!

It's more than just a robot - it's a fully-fledged multimedia centre! With the VHS slot, floppy disk drive, keyboard, screen and "plug for attached peripherals" (a proto-USB interface perhaps?) it's hard to imagine why anyone would need any other device in the home, with the possible exception of a GBA. I agree that you wouldn't want it near babies, though, with those worryingly flexible crushing arms. Maybe the arms should be replaced with a mobile or something?

Thank you brelson, I would like to think I was way ahead of my time. This design certainly foreshadowed the "Windows Media Centre" by more than 20 years! I should be one of those futurists or something.

In keeping with creative commons I linked to this page, and your profile for accreditation.
Let me know if that's cool, or if you'd like it removed.
