this is a differential interference contrast micrograph of some type of cpu. This is part of the actual CPU, the cache RAM isn't visible here (at least the largest part of the ram, there may be some L1 cache present here that i am unaware of) - we're not really getting into the design of the chips, just preparing them for examination, which involves thinning them down to about 1000 nanometers thick - by hand.
You, however, just get to enjoy the pretty pictures.
