The Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) is located in Ryfylke, Rogaland, in Western Norway. From the start of the trail it takes about 3-4 hours for a round-trip. The hike to Preikestolen is very steep in places. Even though the elevation differential is only 334 metres (1096 feet) and the walk is not particularly long (3.8 km each way), the total elevation gain and loss over the course of the hike is more than one might initially expect. Moreover the trail is rock and bouldrer strewn so you are scrambling as much as you are hiking.
Amazingly there are no known accidental falls from the site. It is a 2000 ft drop to the Fjord below.
