Meet Ben, aka "The Tank"

Meet Ben, aka "The Tank" by sadandbeautiful (Sarah).
Yesterday my daughter and I went with Cecily, Charlie and Tori to the PSPCA. They wanted to meet a Pitbull named Beau. Even though it hasn't been very long since saying goodbye to their Bubba, they are a dog family and Cecily especially felt adrift without a canine companion. They figured why not help a dog while helping themselves?

We spent about 2 hours there and met 4 dogs in the yard area. Beau, Boomer, and Remi were all sweet, beautiful dogs but not quite right for them. All signs pointed to this one. He is 3 or 4 years old, so a bit mellower than some of the others. He is nicknamed by the staff "the locomotive" (Charlie is a train connoiseur). He was originally a house dog in a halfway house for recovering alcoholics/drug addicts (we all are). Charlie said "we need a shorter dog" just before Cecily came to his cage (he has the legs of a Basset Hound or Corgi...very, very short).

And then he picked them, too.

Glad to hear (good) people are allowed to have pit pulls there. I believe they are completely banned in Denver -- total B.S. as the breed is not inherently bad!

Pit bulls are fun but they're just naturally aggressive - we have a neighbor at the beach with a Rottweiler and it's the same thing - great dog, but they canna kiss you without those jaws flapping up and down. Doesn't bother most grown ups but it's a lot for kids.

Awwww Pit bulls may tend toward aggression, but like anything there are always exceptions. Certainly Bubba was one. I was sad I never met him but The Tank will be my friend :-)

avyakata They are not naturally aggressive. They are just strong and muscular and have strong jaws.

I am in awe of how good he is being on his first day at home. He's still adjusting, but he's behaving perfectly. It's amazing.

Shelter dogs rock!

I'm so glad Tank found a forever home.

sooo many pit bulls and they are such good dogs. the abusive owners should be put down, not the dogs.
sorry.

Pit bulls are aggressive, and they are bred that way. They are fighting dogs by design. A dog with inferior genes makes a better pet but not necessarily a good pit.

It's not any kind of breed-ism or false stereotyping. It is what it is. Shelties and Corgis are territorial. Cockers are, too, and they and Dalmatians are not so good with children. All these breeds have specific qualities that make them desirable or undesirable, so it's always a good idea to research the breeds before taking them in.

And this is the reason I pick mutts! :-)

Anyway, wish your friend good luck with her new baby. This one has a lot of love in his eyes. Dogs for me are the best medicine. I'm going to hug mine right now.
