neo-documentary aka...

"...this is a photo of something,
and it proves nothing"
In the 1980's, in the Australian art
scene, there was a lot of photo-art that
was being made that questioned the
documentary nature of photography, one
of the techniques used to do this was
titles, another to COMPLETELY stage the
shot as well. [Janina Green a Melbourne
Based artist was one of many who
experimented with this idea.]
This body of work [set] is about time,
place, and space.
Here we are in the next century, and
using technolgies like digital cameras,
built into mobile phones the idea of a
photo-document, can now be moved to a
whole other level. Factor in the EXIF
data which gives date and time of
exposure, down to the second, and you
have indeed a whole way of documenting
every minute detail of your life, your
work, your identity.
These new ubiquitous devices called
mobile phones have changed our abiltiy
to map our own movements over time,
creating an extensive document, of where
we have been and what we saw on the way.

I'm thinnking now of re-titling the
work, in a way that is more suggestive
of the idea of note taking, and
movement.
