Keeping Warm

Keeping Warm

People huddled by the centennial flame, trying to keep warm on a gorgeous Ottawa morning where it was damn near -30.

Edge of the Earth

Edge of the Earth

Heading back to St. John's for this one. I was really struck by how unique St. John's was - the people, the culture, the bloody accents, and the physical landscape itself. It seemed as though it was a place unlike any other - isolated and proud of it. Standing up on Signal Hill overlookin the Atlantic Ocean, I certainly felt like I was at the edge of the world, physically, and the edge of civilization - and hell was it a cool feeling.

The end of a season

The end of a season

Law school kept me far busier than I would've liked for most of the fall, and I didn't have a chance to shoot as much as I would have liked.

However, I unfortunately learned that my grandmother passed away on November 21st, 2011. I didn't quite know what to do myself in the wake of this news, so I grabbed my camera and headed out for a long, long walk. I took this photo just as the sun was setting over the Ottawa river, and it seemed quite fitting at the time - fall was nearly over, and the chill in the air said that winter was just around the corner. All things must end, of course, and the end of fall was still brilliant enough to have reminded me that this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The days that followed were quite trying, but such is life - and death. On the whole, my family and I emerged from all of this in a good state. This photo always reminds me of that day and of what followed. A fitting memorial, I think.

A rare (and chilly!) portrait

A rare (and chilly!) portrait

I haven't done a ton of shooting lately, but apparently ruddy cold weather is just what I need to get out and take some photos. I dragged my beautiful girlfriend out with me today on a frigid day in Ottawa, and though I don't normally shoot many portraits, something about this scene struck me.

I'm hoping to get caught up on a lot of photos from the last few months over the next few days. It's good be back on flickr.

Happy 2012! You should probably view this one large.

Quidi Vidi, By's!

Quidi Vidi, By's!

I've been remarkably slack on my flickring of late, due to law school and general business. I had a chance to escape all of that on a hell of a weekend trip to St. John's in late October for my birthday. I had a few brews, to say the least, got screeched in, and generally had a hell of a good time. More photos to come. The sun was out the whole weekend, a rarity for St. John's, and it was ruddy warm, too! I caught this shot in the small fishing village of Quidi Vidi, just outside of St. John's, as the sun was setting which lit up the scene beautifully.

More from St. John's to come - please view large!
