Onagawa + Tsunami = Day 1

Onagawa + Tsunami = Day 1

Technically speaking, it's day 3 as I've arrived here on the 26th. I'm here in the town of Onagawa in Miyagi prefecture of Japan to capture portraits of children affected by the tsunami. This is going to be a running picture blog until I leave a week from tomorrow. Yes, it''s got nothing to do with my bread and butter of sports photography, but hey, there is a world outside of sports. Trust me, there is one.

So far, recruiting kids to get involved in this project has proven to be a disaster. I've forgotten that speaking to kids at this age is nothing but awkward. Here I am trying to convince a 12 year old that shooting him in his town on a weekend is a good idea. Honestly, if I was in his shoe, I would have tuned myself out long time ago.

But this is a marathon and I'm no Usain Bolt. Two steps forward and 1 and a half step backwards.

I shall prevail.

For my sanity, let's all believe that I can make it happen. :)
