06-05-10: Chipmunk Near Trail Ridge Road
Taken at a turn out on the highest highway in the USA. Over 11,000 feet high, and above treeline, and the road had only been clear of snow for a couple of days. Yet dozens of chipmunks still knew where to go to flash those cute big glossy eyes at snack-carrying tourists.
Also, no, I did not feed him. Its against Rocky Mountain National Park rules and for good reason. However, some other motorist did, and I took advantage of the chipmunk's short snack

I don't want to call into question your ability to identify a chipmunk (and there are probably several types) but are we sure this is a chipmunk? It looks more like a groundhog, but that could be due to the perspective of the shot which makes him look large and the fact that the markings on his back/tail are not visible from this angle. Great photo regardless - I'm just curious.
