Unique Rocks, Roxborough St. Park

Unique Rocks, Roxborough St. Park

It was a foggy morn about 25 miles SW of Denver in Roxborough State Park. I believe most of these sedimentary rocks are in the state park, while the Arrowhead Golf Course is public. The rocks tower over the course about 400' at about an 80 degree angle. The colored poles are an irons-only driving range at the golf course.

Melting Mountain Lake

Melting Mountain Lake

Thought the melting pattern of this lake was interesting. The date was May 30th and the lake was still somewhat frozen. Elevation was somewhere around 11,000' on the west side of the Ten Mile Range, Summit County.

Dunes - Dry Riverbed

Dunes - Dry Riverbed

The flat foreground is the area of a shadow stream that develops in late spring and early summer on the south side of the dunes in the Great Sand Dunes National Park, southern Colorado. At its fullest, the stream may become 300-400' wide but only 4-5" deep. It's fed by the melting snows of those mountains, but the stream dries up by middle to late summer. One can wade across it (with shoes and socks off), but the water is quite cold even on a very hot day. (and it WAS fun wading)

Moonrise over DIA Terminal

Moonrise over DIA Terminal

Here's a horizontal comp of one I posted earlier. Think I like this comp better than the previous vertical one. The moon was rising about 10 minutes before sundown.
