Snow-dusted Path to the Flatirons

Snow-dusted Path to the Flatirons

I loved the snow outlining the path after the first week in April but by mid morning the snow had melted from the fields. These sedimentary rocks lie up against the foothills to the Colorado Rockies. Unfortunately, no clouds to work with. Taken from the north edge of the park looking south from the edge of Boulder, Colorado. For the geologic minded, these rock slabs were pushed up to this angle by the orogeny (mountain-uplifting) of the Colorado Rockies; the slabs were once flat sedimentary beds millions of years ago before the Rockies started rising.

May 1st, Denver Snow Storm

May 1st, Denver Snow Storm

I had been waiting a while for a wet snow storm so as to get this comp. Taken only about 3 blocks from my house. It was lightly snowing and foggy at the time. AND YET THIS SNOW WAS ALL MELTED IN 3 DAYS!

Fog Enveloping a Butte

Fog Enveloping a Butte

Early morning fog was enveloping this butte just north of Colorado Springs. And nice light was illuminating the fog. The fog was changing by the second and nice comps were everywhere. I've been told that the object on the butte top is a stone cairn. Took the image just across the dirt road from the red barn near the Greenland Ranch. A beaut of a butte lol.

AF Academy Chapel II

AF Academy Chapel II

Those large triangular windows bring in beautiful light into the Air Force Academy chapel in Colorado Springs. The small panes around the large windows add interesting light too because of the various colors of them. The upper half of the building has a different structure which one can just barely see here with the graceful girders. My original kit lens couldn't capture the scene well, but my f2.8 28-75mm had no problem.

Moon over the Gore Range

Moon over the Gore Range

I headed up to this location in Summit County in the Colorado Rockies just to scout it, knowing it would be a cloudless evening. But when I got there, the moon was conveniently sitting there, so I was reasonably happy with this composition. That speck is not a blemish but one of the planets.
