Trash Orchestra masked up, but why? Well, several reasons. Police surveillance makes it rather easy to discover the identity of a participant in dissent, and the police are not above -- in fact quite expert at -- harassing or singling-out dissenters.

Another simple reason is that police use pepper spray at demonstrations to disperse crowds, and protecting one's nose and throat can keep one safer.

Lastly, it looks motherfuckin' badass, no?

A rally took place in the Baytree Plaza at UC Santa Cruz on November 7th to protest UCSC's Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) and to announce the newly launched tree-sit on Science Hill. Following the rally, people marched to Science Hill to get food, water, and clothing to protesters in the tree-sit. Police from 5 different agencies tried to keep food and water from reaching the tree-sitters. The crowd prevailed and supplies were hoisted into the trees.
