PEPSI kills...Drink at your own risk
If u wanna kill yourself you dont need rat posion have pepsi or coca cola in India instead!!! by SwEeT_AnGeL_i.
Times Of India --
Colas are under a cloud again. Three years after Centre for Science and Environment released its study on pesticides in soft drinks which was later endorsed by a joint parliamentary committee; fresh tests run by the NGO have again found pesticides in 11 soft drink brands.

The study conducted on 57 samples from 25 manufacturing plants of Coke and Pepsi across 12 states has revealed a cocktail of three to six different pesticides in the samples.

CSE Chief Sunita Narain said on Wednesday that the new survey by CSE’s pollution-monitoring laboratory has found that on average, the amount of pesticide found was 24 times higher than the approved limit set by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

While Pepsi contained 30 times higher residues on average, Coca-Cola contained 27 times higher residues. The Indian Soft Drink Manufacturers Association (ISDMA) countered the CSE findings.

In a statement, it said: "The soft drinks manufactured in India comply with stringent international norms and all applicable national regulations.

Over the past three years, the soft drinks industry has worked with the government (ministry of health and BIS), scientific community and NGOs to establish stringent science based norms."

But the CSE study said Lindane (a confirmed carcinogen) levels were over 54 times above BIS standard in general.

Interesting and timely poster!

The big and basic question however - Is drinking water any safer? Do nimboo pani or colourful sherbets or lassi have similar issues? Why is there no publicity / sensationalism on the issue of providing clean drinking water to all (even after nearly six decades of independence!)?

The CSE does carry out campaigns on the water issue too. But sadly those are ignored by the media.

People can live without colas. But water?

anyways colas are crap. prefer sticking to water and juices, though it might be riskier ;)

I am surprised that in India Pepsi Coke didn't pass the safety standard but i'm quiet sure that if we scrach more we gonna find that lots of other big companies will fail the safety standard in India like Oil, Gasoline and lots of other stuff. Regarding food even Maggie noodles last time i bought and i found that noodles got fungus and one time the masalla was missing. There is no standard quality control system and Government is sleep hard.

If same thing is happening in other countries that doesn't mean that we should feel relaxed cause we are not alone, this is the biggest reason that we are still there where we were and infact worst now.

No body wants to change, anybody i talk to, he says that look at other side what is happening. I want to remain dirty cause i am not alone dirty., that is not right dear

FYI, Mothers Milk in Indian Women contain more or less the same amount of Pesticides as Coke or Pepsi does. Out of 112 samples taken by a group of Students from Stanley Medical College the conclusion was banned chemicals like DDT, Phosphorous Pentate etc., were found in breast milk of suckling indian women.

The point is we are going to forget everything about pesticide contamination after banning the cola's.

Cola's are the SYMPTOM, Mother's Milk is the ISSUE.

How funny we indians always deal with the Symptoms and Care a darn about the real issue.

Why discuss and debate?
Why go by what others say?
Why not see for ourselves?

1.Go out and buy a bottle of cola (Hopefully, it'll be the last one you ever do.)
2. Open and pour the cola into a bowl.
3. Add a coin or a tooth to the bowl.
4. Visit the bowl in a week's time.
Voila! No coin. No tooth. No more colas.
If you're ok with killing a few beings, then you could try the same on some insects too.

Now for some personal facts.

As living testimony i have a colleague thirty years old without a single tooth. He drinks pepsi everyday.

As for the pesticides, I personally know of a famous nursery in Bangalore that recommends that colas to be sprayed as a pesticide instead of one of the most toxic chemicals used earlier. What's funnier is that they recommend that the colas be diluted before spraying.

Thanda matlab rigor mortis:)

Dilip Muralidaran  Pro User  says:

vinodheera: You are right 100% but then your approach is not useful. I will tell you why. Coke or any drink, even the lemonade you drink from home is made from ground water. Coke does not buy pesticides and mix it on their drink, nor does you mom when she serves you lemonade, but the fact is both contains equala amount of detromethane and ddt. A banned pesticide world over that india freely distributes and promotes across the contry. detromethane is used in labs to artificially produce cancer along with lead and mentanil yellow (mentanil yellow is nothing but the yellow/orange or red color powder agent with kumkum added to you kesari or kheer/payasam at home)

So what are we doing here? We are addressing the sympton instead of the problem. If you have been shot by a gun you dont cover the wound to stop the bleeding. Cuz bleeding is the symptom, bullet is the issue which if resides in your body will kill you with infection of lead. so the doctor pulls the bullet out of you even though you risk death and more pain in the process. likely we need to fix the quality of our ground water and food crops instead of cribbing about coke and pepsi. I in no way support coke and pepsi but i dont thing coke and pepsi are important, ground water is. You can decide not to drink coke, can you decide not to drink any water at all anymore ?

Please don't be fooled by email forwards like diossolving tooth and coins in soda. Its obvious, carbonated water is a cleaning and a alkaline agent and will react with things, basic chemistry that is taught at school.

The issue here is about contamination of ground water to the very core that breast milk from a mother contains detromethane and lead. Save you child, next time you vote make it a point to vote for the one who will address this, otherwise as for section 49 O. Lets all act smartly and fix the problem and not waste time on the symptom.

@Dilip : Well said .. poison is in our "food chain"
Posted 40 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

vinodheera says:

Dilip, you sure have a point.
So lets' see which link of the food chain this poison comes in.
If i'm not mistaken, it's from the chemical fertilisers and pesticides that WE spray on the soil that percolates down to the groundwater that eventually is drawn up and ends up in everything from breast milk to coke and pepsi.
Going back and practising organic farming, like our Indian ancestors did for 4000 years, i think, is the solution.
in fact i have a beautiful letter by an 84 year old Indian farmer, loaded with timeless wisdom and truth, addressed to Mr Swaminathan, the agriculture minister who is accused of single handedly, plundering and ruining indian agriculture by allowing foreign chemical companies with vested commmercial interests to poison our fertile soil and replace our heatlhy crops with genetically modified ones.
In fact, the origin of farmers suicides in India in the recent past can be traced back to this foreign chemical invasion. I mean, how many farmer suicides have our earlier generations heard of?. It was the time when they sang "Mere desh ki dharti, sona ugale...".

As long as we suckle mother nature, she'll nourish us with milk. But if we start tearing her flesh and poisoning her, like we are doing currently driven by greed and commercialisation, we are poisoning ourselves.

This poisoning must end with our generation. We should stop poisoning our motherland. We should retrace our roots and follow our time tested, healthy, farming practices that, ironically enough, the west is selling to us Indians today, in the name of organic farming.

Our future is in our hands.

Let's choose wisely.

And more importantly, let's do something about it.

Love,

Vinod

PS: Talking of pesticides, the only pesticides this country knew throughout its glorious and rich past was neem, pongamia, turmeric, ash and other simliar 100% natural (organic, if you will) ones.
Indian soil was renowned the world over for its rich feritlity.
It is this very soil that colombus and other explorers "seeked" desperately for ages.
The holy water from our Ganges never spoiled for years on end, and was carried on ships during long expeditions.
India was, and thankfully still is, home to the largest biodiversity in the world. The reason for this is that every creature, large and small, is revered in this country. We pray to all creations of nature in all its forms by associating them with gods. Look at the animals asscociated with the gods-rats, peacocks, tigers, monkeys, crows, peacocks, elephants, bears, snakes, lions, all trees and plants, everything is sacred this is not an act of superstition. It is nature conservation at its very best. It worked for thousands of years, before commercialisation eroded this. One dollar at a time. And poisoned it. One millilitre of pesticide at a time.
Now what, my friends, do you think is the solution?
