(A 100+ year old recycled beam being used in new construction.)
Dedicated to Lynn & Sherry Zarr
by Roy Montgomery – Oct. 2007
For over one hundred years I have stood in place.
Once, I grew tall and straight, enjoying nature’s bounty.
Now, I am called upon to join this army of men.
They fashion me into different shapes, but I’m held together by my friends.
Oh, the wonder’s I have seen in my time.
Listened to conversations of honesty and treachery, love and hate,
I long for the song of the working man.
All have passed beneath me.
Torn down for the sake of progress,
I now sit with faded face, longing for the comfort of home.
I hear the distant call, the call to join a new army.
Shipped to a new front, the rebirth has begun.
Bathed and polished for new battles,
I am ready for the trumpets of war.
Strong and willing to stand the test of time,
Like a Swiss Guard at the Palace door,
I guard this family,
With all my heart and soul, for eternity!
