Entrepreneurship Summit -- Jonathan Ortmans -- Head of Global Entrepreneurship Week -- Keynote
The five pictures in this set were all made live during the Endeavor Entrepreneurship Summit at the FNB Conference and Learning Centre in Sandton today.
I was at the event courtesy of the mighty Fred Roed.
It was truly excellent rubbing shoulders with such a diverse bunch. There were entrepreneurs and money-people, all willing to learn from each other. And share knowledge.
My takeout from the event is that South Africa's black entrepreneurs are a mighty force about to be unleashed. There's passion, knowledge, talent, skills. And these have been beneath the radar. My sense from the question and answer sessions today is that permission has finally been granted by the people of South Africa to recognise our own abilities.
May the business flow!
This painting was made in ArtRage 2.5 on an Asus R1E tablet pc, sponsored by Rectron South Africa. I am a visual facilitator, and you can get hold of my pricing on my website, royblumenthal.com/portfolio. I'm looking forward to helping you make your next presentation unforgettable.

Indeed; "South African black entrepreneurs are a mighty force to be unleashed". There is however a problem: due to global economic recession South African banks hardly invest in new businesses; even not when there is a sound cash flow forecast of a chartered accountant. There is a huge potential in this country; yet to be recognised on a broader scale including the financial world which has hardly any confidence in the 'veggie garden in their own backyard' but are advertising abroad to attract foreign businesses.

I s'pose they're looking for 'tried and tested'. And also, maybe they've been taken to the cleaners once too often.
It must be pretty difficult deciding who to 'give' money to. Cos in at least a small percentage of cases it would be just that... Giving.
I suspect that South African entrepreneurs need to up their sophistication levels a notch or two. The lender has to have confidence that the entrepreneur is more than just an idea merchant. They've got to deliver.
