Santorini - My hotel pool - blue on blue

One of my favourite pix that I took in Greece. The hedonistic lifestyle illustrated completely here. The pool belongs to the Hotel Loukas where I stayed.

Why are all those words like "sybarite", "halcyon", "hedonist", Greek I wonder? ;-)

@Howard - To make it a little more adventurous I wouldn't take a cruise. What I did was take an archaeological tour of mainland Greece first (use CHAT tours, they were fantastic to travel with)visiting Corinth, Mykenai, Olympia, Delphi, Meteora and go as far north as Thessaloniki taking in Pella and Vergina. I guarantee this is a trip you will never forget.

Then take ferries to get to the islands. That way you can choose the ones YOU want to visit, not the ones the cruise wants to take you to. Apart from ferries, which are well equipped and very comfortable, some islands can be accessed by Hydrofoil.

Every person has their own favourite island/s, and it is very very hard to choose your favourite. Every island has its own uniqueness, but Santorini, ahhhh Santorini. People love her. In antiquity one of her names was "Kallisti" meaning the Fair One.

Thanks for the link. That's an excellent article. It may seem strange, but I know very little about modern Santorini, and a great deal about it's geologic history. I used to teach earth science, which includes earthquakes, plate tectonics, volcanos, and tsunamis. Those Islands came up a lot in class. I have two sisters who have covered that part of the world, but I have yet to travel east of Greenwich, England.

Howard - My pleasure. If you do a search thru flickr groups you will see a couple of groups for Santorini - the photos there are beyond compare, Santorini is absurdly photogenic. You can see some of the Greek groups to which I submitted this pic to the right of the pic. Places of Magic in Greece is definitely a favourite. Take a look!

I have been there twice and neither time did I feel so much as a tremor ;-) although of course it was always in the back of my mind that she could blow at any minute (joking).

The water in the caldera changes colour constantly, it has a mood of its own for every light. My favourite is the inky blue in this pic. Sobriety and depth - but Santorini the village is full of joy and is not sombre at all. You just must go, OK?
