Big Lizard in my Back Yard

Big Lizard in my Back Yard by rovingmagpie.
It's not like I have a thing for lizards, but when lizards are in season, I shoot lizards. This'll probably be the last one I'll put up for a while, unless something really unusual wanders by :^)

We've only seen a collared lizard on the property once before - this one must've heard about the new deck from the other lizards on LizardNet.

This is the same lizard as in the previous photo.

This is an HDR image. The title came from the Butthole Surfers song, which makes a great soundtrack for viewing these pix.

Is that its real colour, or has the HDR changed it? If it's real it ia amazing.

lol about LizardNet, or would it be Lizrd...
Enjoying his superior expression, must go look at the stripes on his back now.

->ian: The HDR hasn't changed the color. They look fake!
Here's another one I shot a couple of years ago before I knew about HDR. There's some variation in color between individuals, some are bluer, some are greener, but they're all hard to miss!
-> sadalit: You'd have to project a superior attitude to pull off that color - otherwise you could just be a clown.

The colors are stunning! It's interesting to see what effect HDR does have on a photo. I've really liked some I've done and not been so hot on others, but overall, I really love the 'punchup' in color purity. They don't change, but they do become more vibrant.

Thanks, everyone for your wonderful comments!
We were out hiking yesterday and found a few more collards that were willing to pose, so I might put up another lizard photo after I get the film developed :^)

-> Hotash: One of these might cure your cats-bringing-home-lizards problem. All of the guidebooks warn that they bite hard, and they're definitely big enough to grab a cat's nose (or a human finger, I've been lucky so far:^) ).

According to Peterson's Western Reptiles and Amphibians the area we used to live in (Western Colorado, we were about 20 miles from Utah) had the most colorful collareds in the country. Same lizards as in New Mexico, just not as bright. We'll miss 'em, but at least we get "Horny Toads" as a consolation!

~zerpheus - Thanks for the invitation, I'm on my way!

~I LOVE HORSES - I mean "shoot" in the photographic sense - I shoot with a camera, not a gun. All of the lizards scurry away happily!

(actually i dont care at all. i have 100's of gecko's in my house and the world is their toilet. which means i permanently have to clean up after them. great hdr image though, the best ones are those that you are not sure about.. this one is spot on!)
