Bear Glacier 20110625

Bear Glacier showing central moraine. Note the central moraine where two glaciers come together. Resurrection Bay out of Seward, Alaska. This glacier no longer empties into the sea, as it has retracted due to warming of the climate. See these NASA satellite images, which show how the black rows of rocks (central moraines) are formed along the junctions of the separate ice sheets that make up the main glacier. They also show that it was still emptying into the ocean in 2003, although it had retracted quite a bit since the first photo, in 1986:
