Red-faced Cormorant - Phalacrocorax urile 20110622

There were several Red-faced Cormorants nesting on Gull Island, in Katchimak Bay, out of Homer, Alaska. Distinguished from the numerous smaller Pelagic Cormorants by the larger head with two tufts of feathers, and the more extensive red facial patch that extends across its forehead. A new life bird for Mary Lou and me. June 22, 2011.
