Henslow's Sparrow SOOC crop 20100630
This sparrow was interacting with the Henslow's Sparrows. In the field it looked a bit larger, was less retiring, and had a proportionally longer tail and smaller bill, and wings appeared longer. It also had bolder breast streaking and a pronounced whitish mid-crown line. All this added up to a Savannah Sparrow, but its tail was not notched. Upon reviewing the photo it is clear that it has the same olive cast to its head and nape as does the Henslow's Sparrow in accompanying photos. Morning at Nelson Lake/Dick Young Forest Preserve, Kane County, Batavia, Illinois. Can anyone confirm ID?
