Flooded thicket 20100204
Morning walk along West Miramar Environmentally Sensitive Lands. This area has a foot or two of water all summer, but dries up around October, leaving only a small pond at the farthest point. Heavy rains this past week flooded it again. The shrubs often harbor migrating songbirds, and this winter have yielded an Ovenbird, an Orange-crowned Warbler, towhees, cardinals and Swamp Sparrows, besides omnipresent Prairie, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and a few Painted Buntings. Deer and Bobcat tracks may be found in the mud.
