Today I was contacted by a lovely girl called Brenda, who told me
about her friend John who is ill in hospital right now with a
condition called AVM. She explained that AVM is when there is an
abnormal connection between arteries and veins in his brain, it's
pretty serious and that he needs surgery over the next few days. She
said he'd been having a rough time, and asked if I could take a
picture with a sign saying hello for him as he likes my pictures and
would cheer him up.
When I think of the people who like my work and look at my flickr, I
guess the people I think of are around my age and are all interested
in photography, maybe at school, maybe finishing, different types of
people interested in different things. I never really thought that
there might be someone out there going through something like that,
and it really puts life into perspective and I feel like I owe a lot
to these people. So this picture is for John Daniels in Nebraska, and
I hope you are feeling better soon and everyone here is sending you
big hugs!
SO I also thought it would be nice for him to read some nice stories from all you guys on flickr - so tell me something about you that you've been through and that people wouldn't know at first just looking at you, and how you got through it.

I hope that everything has turned out for John. I have a much younger half-sister (by about 20 years) that has AVM. Of course, this condition usually goes undiagnosed unless there is a problem. When she was turning 15 she had a girlfriend over for the night and they were up late watching television. She told her friend that she was not feeling right and fell over dead from a brain aneursym. Her friend went and woke my father and stepmom and they performed CPR on her and got her back. She was medivaced out (no, I wasn't the pilot) and several days later the docs inserted stints into her brain where there was more AVM and she had a successful recovery and even went on to continue participating in sports in high school. She then went on to graduate college and is living a normal and fulfilling life.

Peolpe always say - Life is for living, sometimes thats easier said than done. But those who are able to enjoy the world must keep on doing it for all are our sake. Its nice when they can find generosity in their heart to share it with others, like you are on Flikr.
When people are down its not a bad thing to be inspired, it gives hope that one day things can once more be better.
