Vulture head - pantomime costume

Making a papier mache head for a vulture costume for pantomime.


Constructing original model as basis for papier mache, showing wire base model inside, cardboard smoothing countours fixed with gaffer (DUCT) tape and christmas bauble eye


Technique: Painted hollow papier mache over a sculpted model using cling film between as a release barrier. Support and back mounted counter-balancing using willow sticks.


Papier mache - laminated parcel tape with PVA glue, stiffened in places with crumpled thin card

Paint - decorators emulsion paint, craft PVA paint, felt tip pen and floor varnish.

Support - withies (green willow sticks), gaffer (DUCT) tape

Model - eyes from christmas bauble, moulded wire mesh joined and stabilised with gaffer (DUCT) tape, with cardboard skin layer to smooth and detail built up with cardboard and gaffer tape
