Jan. 26 (tragedy haircut)

Jan. 26 (tragedy haircut) by romanlily.
If any of you locals know of a good place where a person can get her hair cut, let me know. For real.

Ha! I love the colors, your blouse, the gorgeous bag on your head. Good luck with the haircut! (Through the bag, it looks just fine!)

The warnings always say "keep away from children, this bag is not a toy," but I guess it's okay for adults to play with them :)

Rob, I've been going to this stylist for 3 or 4 years, so I know she's good. Things have just been a little dicey lately. I think I got pushed over the edge on Thursday when she gave me this crappy cut and then told me that she was raising her rates from $50 to $60. It just left me a little cold.

Where is "local". Midtown? (I've known people to use "Atlanta" to mean as far out as Kennesaw and Lawrenceville.)

I admire the wall's color, anyway.

Yeah, I guess by "local," I mean "inside the perimeter." And close to the center of town is preferred. I suppose Vinings is technically inside the perimeter, but it feels like it might as well be in Alabama. (Heh. You can tell I don't get out on the highway very often, can't you?)

First of all, those bags are not toys young lady!

Second of all, I go to this place in East Atlanta (Ormewood, East Grant Park, whateva!) on the corner of Moreland and Ormewood called Helmet Hairworxx (other locations exist ITP as well). The name of the salon is crazy, but Stephanie is not.

Good luck.

btw- I am sure you look fantastic under that plastic.

Your tag about getting someone else's haircut reminded me of that Friends episode:

MONICA: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Phoebe. It's just a little shorter than what we had discussed.
PHOEBE: Would you relax? I know what I am doing. This is how he wears it.
MONICA: How who wears it?
PHOEBE: Demi Moore.
MONICA: Demi Moore is not a he..
PHOEBE: Well, he was a he in Arthur, and in Ten...
MONICA: That's Dudley Moore. I said I wanted it like Demi Moore!
PHOEBE: Oh. Oh! Oh my god!
MONICA: Oh my god!
PHOEBE: I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Which one's Demi Moore?
MONICA: She's the actress who was in Disclosure, Indecent Proposal, Ghost...
PHOEBE: Oh, she's got gorgeous hair.
MONICA: I know!!

I hope it wasn't as bad as that!

Good Lord! I couldn't help but laugh Grace -- sorry.
:-)

JiggleyPuff goes to Jamison Shaw, in Butthead. Jamison's daughter Candy Codner, does the cutting.

On a related note, I've had the same guy cutting my hair for, errrr......"years" now. Bobby's shop used to be at Phipp's but is now in the Atlanta Financial Center. They take all comers, women and men.

Skillfull use of the bag, BTW. No, really.

sorry, doll. bad hair can really ruin a gal's life 'til it grows out.

i can give you recs. i've 2 good folks- one at van michaels in va-hi (a former rollergirl) and my new fave colorist (who also cuts) at black cherry, which is right next to eyedrum. both do fine work at a reasonable (by atlanta standards) price.
you know how to get in touch with me if you're interested.

In college we had a saying. "The difference between a good hair cut and a bad hair cut is two weeks." You'll be okay. Stand proud.

I like A Natural Buzz in Decatur (same shopping center as Melton's) - I go to Annette, but Sofia once did an awesome job of fixing a tragic haircut for me. I couldn't get an appointment with Annette and went to a salon over at Northlake Mall - I asked for "long layers" and got a shaggy mullet. YIKES! Even after Sofia got done with it, it still required barrettes for a few weeks, but it looked SO much better.

I go to Junko Hair Studio at Peachtree Battle and Peachtree St - the girl I LOVED left last year, but I've been going to Kevin - he's $45 and last week I got 11 inches cut off my hair, and it's the shortest it's EVER been, and I love it!

Heh. I recently got a haircut from the same stylist as you. I told her to make me look like a rock star, so I walked out with Joan Jett circa 1983 hair. It made me wanna drink whiskey and smoke a lot of cigarettes. After the fact, our girl told me that she's really into '80s punk rock hair these days. I guess should use her own hairstyle as a barometer for her mood, and well, she's sporting a serious faux-hawk these days.

Thanks for the good suggestions, all! I'm taking notes here.

Dearoot, the cut she started giving me was a weird mid-90's job. Sort of like Cyndi Lauper meets L7. In her mind, it was supposed to start short in the back and then angle down toward the front, getting longer all the way. Very punk. I felt like saying, "Excuse me, but I don't think I've ever come in here telling you that I'm a bass player in a post-punk band called Kill Betty. Could you re-attach my hair, please?..."

The cut turned out OK, even if it was a lot shorter than I ever wanted it. The irritating part was that she didn't seem to care about any of it. It just left a crappy taste in my mouth.
