A star is born !!

A star is born !!

Metamorphosis of a Gomphidae dragonfly species. I'm lucky, it's my first time of seeing this event entirely ! I saw the larva getting off water, finding a small aera and waiting there, sunbathing, waiting for the metamorphosis. This shot is taken for behind, showing the wings of dragonfly, slowly growing and expanding to their final size.

It was a wonderful sighting, during almost one hour. But i still don't know what species this is ! I need to identify the larval remain of it.

See at full size for maximum details, it worths it !!

Little bug on a wonderful flower

Little bug on a wonderful flower

This is a powerful image... for me !! During my work to inventory plants on a nature reserve in France, north of Loire river, i discovered an new area of this plant, called Stipa pennata (Feather grass in english). This is a huge discovery for this part of France, where this species has not been seen for more than 120 years !!
It is a threatened species in north of France by degradation of its habitat, calcareous lands.

Gomphus vulgatissimus rock on wood !

Gomphus vulgatissimus rock on wood !

Dragonfly photo-hunting day on a river near my town. I was in the middle of water, on my knees, trying to get as close as my 70-300 mm let me get.
I'm pretty satisfied :-)

Hope of a spring

Hope of a spring

Coming back after a looooooong winter. I haven't done any interesting photo for years, it seems... I've been away from computer for a long time, moving to new house, lacking internet for some time, and a loooot of work !

Now with some more time, internet back, and spring too, i'll try to get back to flickr, post some pictures and visit friends again !

Snake in the sand

Snake in the sand

I saw this little guy on a trip in Provence last week, sunbathing in the middle of a sandy path. No idea of what species this is, as i haven't focused on snake and lizards so far, and this one seems to be a juvenile. I only konw it's a Coluber from the round eye and the number of scales on top of the head (not visible on this shot).

Anyone have an idea on which species this is ?
