The last leg![]() ![]() I have never seen so many bicycles in one city before (in my 4 years at Purdue), that are just left on the ground and never to be touched again.
Any campus I've been on has never had this. Anyone see this phenomenon on other campuses? This is the typical scenery near buildings on Purdue's campus. CommentsWould you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |

Visit Davis CA there are thousands of this. FYI Davis is the city with the biggest number of bikes per capita in the US. I guess China have the record for having the biggest city with a huge number per capita in the world.
The explanation of 'thephenomenon' is the following: with rain and dust and low-quality materials most of the locks get tired and then it happens! there's no way to bring your bike home because the legal procedures to follow, besides the high cost of the process. You spend a lot of hours talking to the police dept., talking with the lock makers and trying to figure out how to unlock your beloved bike. The result of such quest is that (if you bike costed you less than $200 bucks) abandoned bikes. That's it!
