Wow, how can I learn to draw/take notes like you? It's just so awesome!

Tell you what-- you'd have to draw/sketch pretty DARN fast... (and I betcha he had that title page all done well before he walked in and sat down, or else he saved that page for later... fess up, Mikey...!)
Mike Rohde (51 months ago | reply)
I did the title page between sessions after the fact, and the drawing of the woman with her laptop in the hall between sessions (text added later in the week) but all of the others for the actual sessions were done on the spot, in real time. No kidding — ask my friends Ashe, David and Brian. :-)

julian9, I think you need to just start trying to draw this way to learn it. This has taken many years of taking regular notes plus sketching separately to build some base skills.
When I do these real time, I'm listening and seeing then compressing the ideas into bites I can capture, filling in drawings as I see them in my head between thoughts. It's hard to describe, but I think you simply have to do this to figure out how to do it your own way.

Simply beautiful. I attending many of the same panels and you've captured them brilliantly!

CC, thanks man!
I saw you on the Rawk panel on Tuesday, that was great and my buddy David (VideoVillan) was the guy in red who asked how he should tell his colleagues at work about SXSW.

I wish I could favorite an entire set, but I'll just start with this one so I can always find it. These are amazing. Makes me want to get a sketchbook and sketch.

Good Work. These look a lot better than my notes.

Great stuff Mike. Attended some of the same panels but your notes are alot more concise. Love your comment above... "compressing the ideas into bites I can capture". I'm completely inspired to start taking notes like this. Maybe next year I can post a few of my own if I ever get this good at it. Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic!

@laanba -- Wow! Thanks for the encouragement on these! I think Flickr ought to add the ability to favorite whole sets and even collections. I miss that feature myself. Go get a sketchbook and have fun! Learn by doing. :-)
@oylerdp — Thanks, glad you enjoyed them!
@deanolufson — Thanks! I say go for it man! Everyone has a unique perspective and way of doing notes, I'd like to see your way too!
@Erin Lynch — Thank you! :-)

This is fantastic and fun. I'm enjoying comparing my notes with yours and finding inspiration in your style. Just curious, do you use a moleskine sketch or just a plain moleskine?
Mike Rohde (49 months ago | reply)
sheris, thanks!
I use the Moleskine Sketch for the thicker paper, it holds up with heavy ink coverage (I like to used both sides of the pages).
