This boat is named after Constable Robert G. McBeath, V.C., who was born in Rosehearty in North East Scotland and grew up in Rhiconich on the West Coast of Sutherland, in the Highlands of Scotland. He was awarded the Victoria Cross due to his bravery at the Battle of Cambrai in France in November 1917, at the age of 19 while serving in the Seaforth Highlanders.

Following the war, he emigrated from the Highlands to Canada and subsequently joined the Vancouver Police where in October 1922 he was fatally wounded by a gunshot from the man at the wheel of an erratically driven car the officer and a colleague had leapt aboard to try to bring to a stop. PC McBeath was only 23.

Although it says he was born in Kinlochbervie, the following article is worth a read:

The Powerpoint presentation that Kinlochbervie Primary School did on Robert MacBeath is accessible here:

- and well worth a watch - but BE WARNED - it's 64 MEGABYTES in size!
