SB-28dx on a stand to Lauren's right. 85mm beam spread. Triggered with a 30ft pc cord. Man the wind was cold today. Lauren made it work.

that's a great photo. I saw the thumbnail and thought "track star". I love the light on her face.

Wow. Thanks guys. Even if I could somehow magically make the trees disappear from reality, I don't think they would go anywhere. Personally I think they help balance the frame and help with the suggestion that she's towering above her surroundings.

The only thing I could see doing to improve the shot would be if I had run my butt the 200 yards across muddy wheat fields to drop a couple SBs on the edge of the treeline, thereby enhancing the illusion of "setting sun." But I was lacking any Pocket Wizards and I couldn't see making her stand there on the side of the road freezing her little bu- er... legs off.

Of course she's got great legs, she's the 400 m champion for crying out loud. :) But it IS a great pose.

I would have liked to have seen another light from the back, Hitting her upper shoulder and kissing the back of her head, just to give some put a little more definition between her and the sky; not as bright as the front light.

What time of day was this shot?

Thank you all for the flood of positive comments.

Brock, there's been quite a little discussion that got started on FredMiranda.com which goes right along with your thinking. As it is, I think the pic does OK. But it certainly could be taken up a notch with some a little more work.

I'm sure there will be a "next time" with another runner so I can work out some of the kinks, but I don't imagine my boss sending me on another 150-mile journey to shoot her again any time soon.

The image was shot at about 4pm. It was about 40 degrees out with a 10-15mph wind. Not ideal weather to shoot a kid who wasn't too keen on freezing her butt off.

I'm glad I got the image I did, but as always- I want more.
