Trying out Nikon D3 - 'The WidowMaker'

Trying out Nikon D3 - 'The WidowMaker' by E®go Martini™.
Any tears in my eye are purely digital artefacts :P

The sound of this bad ass m/f when i went full out was impressive, to say the least. Not really the one for candids or weddings. D300 was almost worse (better).

Picture taken by Hallonbudda and extremely edited by yours truly.

This does not strictly comply with the requirements of the Nikon Porn group, but inasmuch as it shows the D3 in action, I'll allow it to stay in the pool, at least for the time being —and although I'd have preferred the focus to be on the camera. ;o)

Ok, cheers Dominique! But, really, I have a very small head and that camera is huge ;)

At least it gives a decent persepective of how big the camera is in comparison to a human head. Besides the sound, the size alone won't help with being stealthy.

Is that the 14-24 f2.8 on there?

To tell you the truth, I wasn't really paying much attention to the lens. On the D300 they had the 60mm micro.

It could be the 24-70 on there. Only less than 2 weeks until the initial release of the D3 and D300 :). I wish I had funds for a D3, or even be able to hold one, heh.

twigert1 what do you use today? Are you getting the D300? I don't know where you live, but if it any-place other than Sweden you're in luck when it comes to buying camera-equipment. Cameras are a little bit more expensive here and lenses are about twice as expensive as in the states for instance!!
I suffer from 'lens envy'-galore and an itch that just wont go away! I must find some way of buying lenses from B&H without having to pay tolls on arrival to Sweden!

I actually live here in the US and currently use a D100, and will probably upgrade to a D2h or D2x hopefully by the end of this year. Even if I had enough for the D300, its too late to pre-order. Plus, I like the feeling of having the vertical grip already built in rather than having to purchase another part. My brother is really looking into a D3, but that probably won't be for another while...possibly when the D3 becomes more readily available.

twigert1 is your brother a professional photographer with extreme needs working under special conditions or just (like we all are more or less) someone who just likes having stuff, preferably technical stuff?

He does some jobs once in a while, but I have no idea if he wants to go pro. He also shoots often in dark conditions, so the low light capability on the D3 is a big plus.

Seems like one would also get the benefits of a physical workout using such a splendid pair.

goddessofxanadu the D2x isn't bad either. I'd like full frame and faster/better AF possibilities though. The high ISO-capabilities doesn't interest me much.

did you go at 11fps? lol
i never really shoot faster than 8fps on my D3,
makes me feel like i'm using an F5 haha!
and yeah i just try to balance it out with my D700 so both are 8fps, but what i found very VERY funny about the two cameras is the D700 performes 20% better than the D3 at ISO6400
odd but true

msp | uoʞıɾnɟ ʇıq-8。 I don't think I did. 8fps was enough. How exactly do you come to the concussion that D700 performs 20% better and how do you calculate that? Same sensor and same firmware. If you can prove this you'll be the first from what I've read and seen.

How's the F6? I would so like to hold and use one. Must be a dream.
