the ray gun

SU-800 Commander
SB-R200
The Beast
Too much gel :-P
24-70/2.8
Best brand!
the ray gun by rodinis.
the ray gun: D3 and full array R1C1

edit: this is not my setup. it belongs to // raygun, hence the title. :]

and for those leaving idiotic comments:
- know your equipment, check the GN of one SB-200 and then do the math: it's not as much power as it looks.
- it's not that heavy. an extra 2 lbs at most.

Guess he didn't read the manual that says you're only supposed to mount 2 SB-R200 heads on the 24-70, but it sure looks cool.

tsumik - the battery life is pretty good because the flash output is controlled by the camera's TTL function. in fact, that night was the first time I changed them in 5 months.

jcAOY - manual, schmanual... what's the point if you cant push the equipment to the edge?!?! :-D

here's the shot:

Cool.. I see the sbr200;s are about $160 each. For all on the camera the total would be something like $1280. With a ABR800 costing $400 and having more power this seems like more of a novelty. I do enjoy the creativity and the sample shots look real nice.

I do agree that the Alien Bees is cheaper. However it's too powerful to shoot portraits that close (you have to shoot at least an f/8)

With this setup you can shoot at a very wide aperture and keep DoF

one thing jameshamilton didn't consider is that the Alien Bees ring flash requires power, whereas these presumably are battery powered.

Certainly a nice setup and has great portability vs most powered ring lights. Nice one. For less power I've seen people make custom deals out of bowls, this has those beat hands down.

you might find this link to a very low cast version interesting.
