Christos Anesti!

The resurrection of Christ is celebrated in time-honoured Greek Orthodox fashion at midnight of Easter Sunday, in the grounds of the Holy Sepulchre Monastery in the Plaka area of Athens. People wish each other the Paschal Greeting "Christ is Risen!", to which the reply is "Indeed he is Risen!".

This church is in the possession of the Patriarch of Jerusalem (see link above), and every Easter the Holy Light is brought on a special flight from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to this monastery, before being distributed to every diocese and church in Greece, where it is used to light the candles of the faithful. It is then carefully carried home to bless and bring good fortune to each house and its occupants.
