Chocolate-Cream Cake- shallow DOF

    Prev Next

Shallow depth of field to blur back of cake and background reflection. 1/100 second at f/7.1 and still got a shallow enough depth of field to really blur the background reflection of the shoot-through umbrella on the black Plexiglas. Single focus point on the front frosting garnish on the top front of the cake. Allowed for a sharp focus from the front of the plate to about the mid-point of the cake.

Using Nikon CLS, iTTL. Camera on manual with Nikkor 85mm f1.4D. Camera pop-up flash set to "--" power (Nikon D300 Custom Setting Menu e3 > Commander Mode > Built-in Flash Mode "--") to trigger flashes. SB800 camera left and behind product with 24" silver umbrella, around +.3 EV. SB800 camera right front with 43" shoot-through umbrella and very close to product. EV around 0. EV compensation varied from shot to shot.

Thanks. My wife isn't very happy about having these desserts being around every week, though.
