The Chungking Mansions is possibly one of the best examples of low-end globalization. On any given night around 124 different nationalities stay in this building. 4,000 people/night stay here and around 10,000 people pass through the building everyday. There are 90 guesthouses and 380 buisnesses: food stands, sellers of mobile phones, electronic items, clothing.

There are around 80 sex workers and 40 heroin addicts and petty drug dealers here as well.
The main types of people who come here are traders, owners/managers, asylum seekers, and tourists.
Over half the population of the building is from sub-saharan Africa and it's estimated the 20-30 percent of all phones in that region are traded/purchased in the Chungking mansions.
