Desert View Watchtower

Desert View Watchtower by Robby Edwards.
Grand Canyon National Park, September 2009

The Watchtower was designed in the 1930s for the Harvey Company by Mary Colter, who also designed several other buildings in Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. It was built to be a rest area and gift shop at the eastern end of the National Park.

Today, the tower still has a gift shop in it, and the upper floors provide excellent views of the eastern portion of the Grand Canyon.
