The colours wash away,
And the sounds fade into memory.
Your pale ghost...
With outstretched arms, tries to hide it all from passer-by.

That Gothic window at the top is really cool. Sad that this happens to these houses, one of my favorite subjects is about to be torn down this week or next... I'm going to place a call to see if I can go grab some woodwork out of it.

    That's a beauty!
I love the gothic - the window, the trees aspiring upwards, the bleached bones palette on wood and woodwork.

there is this house that's on in beverly hills and it looks straight out of a surreal take on maybe some sort of hobbit land. but a twisted in a good way (fairy) tale. i've always loved it. and i just realized that your photos remind me so much of that.

and i've been away too long. you have like, 6 new ones since i've looked at anyones. (forgive me, i accepted a project that had me going like, 19 hours a day that was both joyful and painful.)

i want to find a pic of that house for you. maybe you'll see it too.

regardless, you are a master, my friend. you have a certain aesthetic that even when you do other types of ... things (no clue on the term here -but i noticed you had a TTV-ish type thing on one of your others) it still is SO you. and it's amazing.

ok, so my memory isn't serving me correctly as the house in bev hills looks more like your landscapes and houses in my head than in full color picture, but maybe you'll see it. like, if you were able to photograph this house and it was on an expanse and did what you do, it'd fit right in.

    go here: thirdandfairfax.blogspot.com/2006/06/witchs-house-of-beve...

and then also, apparently this is a "type" of architecture. (not sure if just here in LA or everywhere. didn't take time to read): storybookers.com/

the thing about these houses, if i'm right, is that you'd tend to see a lot up in the hills, especially Laurel Canyon which is just amazingly rich with things i think you'd love. the streets and houses.

but you have open expanses there. we don't. so it may not be your cup of tea.

ok, i'll stop now. but if you want to google it, it's called the "spadena house" or "witches house of beverly hills".

(i want very much to show you the studio i worked at for a long time and was just back at for the past few days. it used to be charlie chaplins building and it's this cluster of bungalows on this smaller lot across from Paramount. i LOVE it. but i remember we had a picture in the conference room of what it looked like back when he owned it and it reminds me of your photos again.

or it's nearly 2am and i've been working for WAY TOO LONG. :)
