Shani (http://www.flickr.com/photos/schani/) made a plug-in called mathmap in the Gimp that can create these cool effects.

Update, thanks for the reactions everybody,

Got some questions about the creation of this. As been said this is made in the Gimp (www.gimp.org) with the plug-in Mathmap. If you put "mathmap" and "gimp" in a search engine, you will be able to find it.

To take full advantage of Flickr, you should use a JavaScript-enabled browser and
install the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player.
