No! That is not real! Please tell me that is not a real person, just someone computer generated to make a point. God forgive their parents if it's real. :(

Economically challenged neighborhoods are targeted by these cheap fast food restaurants. It is a shame that super markets with fruit and vegetables, organic milk, hormone free chicken along with breads w/o preservatives and high fructose corn syrup cost too much for these families that live in these areas. We are also looking at a child who is not encouraged to ride a bike or play and run in a park, assuming their neighborhood is not safe enough to play outside or the playground is not appealing either by the broken old equipment of the bad people that hang out on or near the equipment.
Just yesterday, in an upscale suburb going to my Dr.’s appt., I was utilizing the elevator as I am disabled to walk stairs. An obese (according to the BMI charts) woman chose to take her obese 7 year old son with me in the elevator to go up one floor. Her choosing to ride up with a disabled person while the beautiful, open style staircase was 10 feet away from the elevator was appalling to me. Showing her child to take the easy elevator along with a disabled person subliminally sinks a message into the child’s head that he and mom can’t walk up stairs either. She is also the type of person who will illegally use my handicapped stall when the other stalls are full and the last spots are a walk to the door. What does this mother teach this child with her examples?
Obese persons will be driving up costs for health care in this nation. Maybe an exercise bicycle should be electronically connected to the television set so in order for the TV set to run, the bicycle has to be pumped. Or maybe a treadmill would be another electrical/exercise option to turn a sedentary life-style a bodily-exercised/reward to get this American embarrassment and obese person's health a priority for their self esteem issues that will very soon influence the health care costs for everyone in America.
Greed is not only in the corporations that feed us the cheap crap food at a huge profit but greed is influential to the persons with the overeating problems too. Starving persons in our country right now look at these persons as gluttons.
The majority of this problem is not what the adult obese persons are eating; it is what is eating them. It is about self esteem, all types of emotional and or physical abuse current and/or past, obese adults showing love by stuffing their own kid with food, an adult giving in to a begging, whining, and/or prolonged tantrums for more food by an obese child so it will “shut them up”, generational habits passed down as their parent did it to them, a parent’s abusive patterns or jealousy of their own child having a fresh chance at life that they think they can't or won’t change the behavior for the responsibility of producing an all around healthy child, and many other of their own mental issues.
We need to get back to how our grandparents and great grandparents ate...for nourishment and fuel for their physically active days. Eat fresh food, flavored with spices rather than sodium/salt, and stop eating highly processed foods. Everything you eat and the fuel you burn affects every part of a person’s body – please do the research if you want to change bad habits with your kid(s).
Here is a recent discovery and you can research through the Mayoclinic.com; allowing a child to start and maintain the bad habit of not brushing teeth and that bad habit continues for life; has been linked to heart disease later in life as plaque from teeth travels through the blood stream to build up plaque in major arteries and also plaque deposits to the brain to block blood flow and cause a stroke.
More and more Type 2 diabetes are showing up for pre-pubescent children now. Why are there so many allergies now days? Why are the rates of autism rising phenomenally in the young kids? Soda in a baby’s bottle – WHAT?
When did parents give the decisions of food choices to the child? Parents have the full responsibility of producing the best educated and healthiest child so that they can contribute in this world. This challenging responsibly is why we become parents! A great loving parent will reap rewards in the long run. Teaching our children the best that they can be regarding health and education is the future of our country! If an adult cannot make this commitment of raising healthy, educated, and happy kid(s), they are not ready or fit to be a parent.
Being a parent is hardest and most important job you have in life. If you are struggling, GET HELP NOW! Children are resilient and are able to turn things around a lot easier than you think and will thank you in the end for being the parent to them that you needed to be for them.
There is so much help and programs available regarding beating child obesity by parent’s learning and applying required nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. There are options such as accountability programs to get you started and keep you on track, your family doctor will point you in the proper direction – and if that doesn’t work, ask another Dr. and do not give up until you find the right path! Remember the path of least resistance will leave you and your family ill. Resentment and mental worry wastes valuable positive and happy living. Any spirituality, not religion, also will get your family the personal internal support one needs for finding themselves and the courage to do whatever it takes to become balanced and centered and have valuable self-worth.

It makes me sick to look at that. As a nurse, these are the young people who are going to be bankrupting our health system (one that is already compromised) with comorbidities from these choices. It is sad that healthy food is so expensive. I can appreciate that, but think about this, a bag of potato chips (11 oz) is about $4.00. A bag of POTATOES (10 lbs) is also $4.00.....we CAN make better choices for our children. There is NO excuse!
