Grandpa's Pepsi Cola WWII Record

Grandpa's Pepsi Cola WWII Record by Roadsidepictures.
My grandfather recorded a message on this record and mailed it to his sister during World War II.

Is it playable? That'd be so freaky to hear a familiar voice recorded so long ago. Especially if he were dead -- and I hope he isn't. (Sorry to be morbid.)

I played the record (it's a 78) on my old Magnavox a long time ago. It's neat to hear him talk. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away in 1992.

That GEM record must have been the inspiration for The Village People.

I have one of my grandfather (who died in '45) and my mom when she was about 4. It's surreal.

We had a small reel to reel tape recorder when I was in high school and I used to bring it to family gatherings and hide it under the table to record the conversations. Later, I transferred some of those onto cassette tapes for my sister and I and called them Voices From The Past. I'm hoping to transfer those to c.d. It is surreal to listen to them, but it's also great to hear voices you haven't heard in years.

What's that second, off-center hole for? It's been eons since I last saw a 78rpm record but I don't remember them having that feature.

I think I would cry listening to it if it were a related of mine.
