Neil Diamond on the subway by Robert Lindsley.
Nancy and I saw Neil in concert the night before this picture. I talked to him about the show as I was getting off the train

Since so many people have asked I will tell the whole story:

August 13th, 2008 2pm EST. I was coming from my office on 37th and 5th to take the subway to Union Square. (14th St & Broadway). I got to the N Station at Herald Square heading downtown.

The train came up and the doors opened. Since it was 2 in the afternoon, the trains weren't so crowded. I saw a camera crew, and on the other side of the closing doors I saw Neil, and my heart leapt!

To get to an empty part of the train, I had to walk between Neil and the camera crew. Of course I could tell it was Neil right away, but nobody else on the train seemed to notice.

Once the train doors closed I could see that Neil was doing an interview. He started talking with a British film crew about his days growing up in Brooklyn.

I pulled out my iPhone to take the picture. I got one picture taken when I turned to my left. A large man (who I could tell was with Neil) looked at me and started shaking his head, so I immediately put my phone down. I looked down and listened to the interview.

When the train came to a stop I had to go between the camera crew and Neil again to get off the train. When I was off the train I said, "I saw your show last night and it was wonderful. Thank you very much!"

He looked at me over his sunglasses and said "You were there? I'm glad you liked it. Thank you so much."

The train doors closed and he was gone, until the next time I see him. What a gentleman!

Robert.

That is such an awesome encounter! Lord knows what I would have done if I ran into him. My panties would be flinging across the subway car at him, methinks.

But I've always wondered.... why does the large guy get to look over at you and tell you not to take a picture of Neil?? After all, he is in a public place and anyone anywhere is perfectly allowed to photograph anything (even Lindsay's fug girlfriend!). So, I know he may have punched you in the mush if you took another photo... but what gives him the right?
