Watkins Glen, NY, is an incredible gorge carved by water over the last 10,000 years. I've never seen a place quite like it actually. The very short hike takes you a mile and a half or so through a veritable paradise of hanging gardens, stone walls and steps, tunnels, and about 19 waterfalls such as the ones above. Shooting with shutter speeds of about 2 seconds I used a stone wall as a brace for this one. I walked through the gorge twice with my young son Simon, once for reconnaissance and then another pass for the shots I wanted. A cloudy day allowed me to slow the shutter down with a polarizer on the lens.

Saw this picture with an article on fall photography on Digital Photography School (dps) blog. Your name was listed but not the location. I HAD to find out where. To think it's in NY! The way the shot was done and the way the landscape is, I almost thought it was a fancy painting. Just gorgeous.

This is Watkins Glen, NY, by the way. Finger lakes region, just at southern tip of Lake Seneca.
