between the legs of delicate arch by Peter Rivera

between the legs of delicate arch

Since my shot of the whole thing was pretty lame compared to the flickr masses and the pros out there I humbly submit a shot of one of the "legs".

yellowstone, wyoming by Peter Rivera

yellowstone, wyoming

in Yellowstone it is humbling to be standing on top of the world's largest active Super Volcano gurgling miles under your feet. This is geology so powerful it literally erased portions of the Rockies in the last cataclysm and probably changed the climate of the entire planet. According to National Geographic it has gone off many many times over the millennia and has remained stationary in a fixed position under the earth while the continental slide of North America has passed over it leaving evidence of past eruptions in Idado to the west. Last time it went off it was 50 times the power of Krakatoa.

In the meantime while we are waiting for the next one we can make hard-boiled eggs in pretty holes like the above.
