LifeMap

This is a visualization of my life between ages 6 and 24. It was created as an assignment for an Information Design course at Parsons taught by Dmitry Krasny.

This is really interesting Ritwik. I had never seen it but it looks great. I will print it out to see it in detail.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Stunning Design & Concept (all categories, only the best), and we'd love to have your work added to the group.

Thank you. I'm thinking of extending this (since it's 3 years old now) and possibly working on some new designs.

      Hi
      Found this on www.serialconsign.com/taxonomy/term/127
and wanted to say how much i admired it, a really well executed concept.

I just printed it out at work (Lbi) to have a further look and by the the time I had walked to the printer someone had nabbed it. I caught them the second time and they congratulated me on my work which I then explained was not mine. So I think i can safely say its a hit with not just me but with everyone here. Well done and looking forward to more...

@jimmybick: That's quite a little story :) Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the design.

interesting, stumbled on this by chance... any special significance to the colors (yellow, red, black, brown... etc)?

    20. ritwikdey (50 months ago | reply)

The warm spectrum represents non-academic interests while the cool spectrum represents academic ones. The warmer colors to some extent convey the passion with which I pursued these interests.

I haven't looked at your background but since you have the design nailed you might want to iterate it into a LifeAggregator. Great way to learn Processing, AS3, WPF, or openFrameworks ;).

Great work! I put it into a collection of interesting inforgaphics, have a look www.flickr.com/photos/visupsrl/3562707998/

This is amazing, great job Ritwik. Now I'm considering the Parson's Design school for my Master's, after "The New School". Your skills definitely speak on their own.

    30. ritwikdey (41 months ago | reply)

rhetorikolas, thanks. If you do end up going to Parsons let me know and I'll tell you which professors specialize in information design.

I'm a bit confused by the colours - have you got the academic/non-academic labels the wrong way round then? Looks great though and I wish I could see enough detail to really explore in depth!

    34. ritwikdey (33 months ago | reply)

Hamish, the labels are the right way, although I can see why you'd think they weren't.
I have a large version of the graphic up on Flickr, so you can read in as much detail as you need.

    35. jess17a (33 months ago | reply)

agreed, aren't the things in cool colors your academic interests? they are labelled non-academic.

    36. Hamish MacPherson (32 months ago | reply)

Think I understand - labels refer to milestones not coloured stacks. Took me a while to work out though

    37. bunker537 (32 months ago | reply)

Forgive me if I'm just not seeing the explanation somewhere, but what do the thicknesses of the bars represent?

    38. ritwikdey (32 months ago | reply)

The thickness represents intensity of interest or commitment.

incremental life, good! Why deep ecology and gaia theory so late!!!!
      Best regards

    40. ritwikdey (24 months ago | reply)

Deep ecology and Giaia Theory were subjects I had to tackle during my graduate thesis. I wish I had studied them sooner.
