Self portrait with SMC Takumar 1.4 50 on Leica M9 / ISO 640
Currently experimenting with a few non-rangefinder coupled lenses on my M9; this shot taken at arm’s length with my favourite old-timer 50, the SMC 1.4 Takumar. Mine is the 7 element.
For all intents and purposes it’s more than a match for my Summilux 1.4 50, in fact in some ways I prefer it... with the added bonus that it focuses much closer than the Leica (0.45m to 0.7). Not as sharp as the Leica wide open, but this is not necessarily a bad thing for portraiture.
Usually have this mounted on my Nex but it really shines on Leica’s Kodak sensor, even with unprocessed OOC files (PP for this shot in Lightroom). Focussing through the viewfinder is obviously impossible with this lens so it’s tape measure, pot-luck, zone focus or bust.
