Uluru at sunset

    Nikon D80 & AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II

I know this is the third time I've posted a shot of this rock at sunset. Sorry. But it's taken me three goes to get the balance of foreground, rock and sky right. I promise this is the final one (at least for 2008).

In all likelihood I have over cooked the rock a bit, but it was very bright. Like every one else we set up on the west face and banged away at the remote release every 20 seconds or so. Rock glowed a bit. Yeah, pretty good. When it started to dim again I started to take down the tripod like everyone else. Luckily for me my wife was facing in the other direction, watching the sun, and pointed out the sun hadn't gone below the horizon, just behind a very low lying cloud. About 2 minutes later when about 80-90% of people at the viewing area had driven off, or were n their cars, just turning out of the lay-by the sun dropped below the cloud, onto the horizon, and we got the show we had traveled 2000km for. Really was as incredible as I had hoped (but dare not believe).
