There was not much sun, that's the reason why the snowy eyes are so open. You can also see them like that early morning or at the end of the day.
Le même Harfang des neiges mais une pose différente. Les yeux du harfang sont plus visibles lorsqu'il n'y a pas de soleil (la journée était nuageuse lors de la photo). L'idéal pour observer ses yeux est tôt le matin ou en fin de journée.

Would you believe that today I went in the field with only half of the coat, hot underwear etc. because it was warm at home. I found this beautiful male snowy owl (never seen one before), and frozen to death in the field for 2 hours! It was so cold that two of my fingers (in gloves) would barely move and they did burn a lot when I was able to warm them. Next time I will bring all of gears/clothes in the car.
J'ai gaffé aujourd'hui : En sortant de la maison, la température était agréable dehors, donc je me suis moins habillé qu'à l'habituelle. Quand j'ai trouvé ce harfang des neiges mâle (la première fois que j'en vois un), il était sur le toit d'une grange, au milieu d'un champ. Le vent était très fort... si bien qu'après 2 heures, j'avais une main à moitié gelé. Deux des doigts bougeais difficilement. Le pire c'est quand on les réchauffe, ça brûle énormément pour quelques minutes. La prochaine fois, je vais traîner plus de vêtements... je me demande si un jour il va y avoir des poignées chauffantes sur les caméras ;)

Today I was doing a search for snowy owl photos on Flickr and guess what, I found one of my photo on someone else Flickr stream. My signature on the bottom right has been removed from the photo.
