This is the town where I grew up and where my parents still live. Its one
of those formerly sleepy California surf towns that attracted a flock of
developers in the 80's and 90's
Much of its charm is still there. Its part of the larger township of Encinitas which sits large on the Surfing and Yoga and Flower maps of the world. Ashtanga Yoga landed in the West here. Yogananda also established his seaside temple here.
The number of famous Surfers from here is too many to name. My nearby high school had Surfing as a Physical Education requirement. One of my classmates was Brad Gerlach - the big-wave surfer in many of the recent movies.
Finally, it used to be a huge Flower-growing town, full of greenhouses. Most of them are now gone. But one of the biggest survived: The Ecke Poinsettia Ranch which is responsible for about 70% of the Poinsettias you see in the US around Christmas.
